What type of sleeping bag should I be looking at purchasing for the harsh Australian climate?

Max_Power asked:

I am looking at doing some backpacking around Australia for about 6 - 9 months...

I don't know anything about what type of sleeping bag to go for...I have done some research and theres always a 7c or 9c number associated with each sleeping bag model...

Is this code for what climate the sleeping bag is designed for? If so what type should I be looking for?

Nitro-Pak

How do I keep my sleeping bag from sliding off of air mattress?

it all depends on where in Au you go and when. Northern Australia is very warm and tropical, then you head south and it can get cold unless it is summer there, it can still get cold, but not like crazy two sleeping bags and long-johns cold. I would not recommend a negative anything sleeping bag. 7c and 9c might be degrees Celsius. You can also buy sleeping bags over there. Australia is effing awesome, I spent four months there and barely scraped the surface of its awesomeness.

Unless you are backpacking in the snow, most areas that get visited in Oz tend to be a bit more tropical so a 9 degrees C rating would be quite enough. Such bags aren’t horribly expensive, you might wait till you get here. Carry one of those foil emergency blankets just in case you end up experiencing an inland frost or decide to hike the mountains (also good for fires).
