What kind of connector do I use to attach a handle to a cane or walking stick?

Samantha asked:

I make walking sticks and canes but I do not use handles (I usually bend naturally). I was thinking of trying to add handles. What kind of connector do I need? I have seen some threaded connectors on eBay but they are expensive.

check with your local hardware store. there is a double-ended ***** that I have seen used on wooden bookshelves that might be something you can use.

My husband made me a cane and the handle is a metal dragon’s head. He shaped the neck base metal of the head into a cap and then slipped it over the top of the cane. He poked holes into the cap part and ran screws into the cane. Ran the screws out and then put epoxy into the holes and ran the screws back in. It has held for 7 years now.
The dragons heads were from a catalog of decorative pieces for around the house. He made one for a friend and used the top of an incense burner on it. There are a lot of places you can check out that would not normally be thought of for parts to make the handles. Try going to thrift shops, Goodwill and other 2nd hand stores and just see what they have that can be cut down, opened up or modified. You might be surprised at what you can find if you look with an open mind. Imagination creates many individual things that sell for high prices.
