car camping
Within a 4 hour drive there are more camping spots than you could ever visit. If you like forest, within about an hour’s drive, you can find great off-road camping in Lovell Canyon. To get there, take State Route 160 past Mountain Springs, and then turn right on Lovell Canyon Road, the road is paved for several miles, with many, many dirt roads starting from either side of Lovell Canyon road. You can camp off any established road, there are many unofficial camping spots with flat areas and pre-built fire rings.
If you like desert, take your jeep to Bitter Spring Road, to get there, take I-15 North from town and turn off where the Pauite smoke shop/fireworks store is, go a few miles on the paved road towards Valley of Fire State Park, but stay straight where the paved road veers left. You can take the rough dirt road as far as you like, its about 22 miles to Lake Mead, camp anywhere along the dirt roads there that you like.
If you like bizarre geologic scenery, take the Great Basin Highway (US 93) to Cathedral Gorge State Park (it’ll be on your left a ways after Caliente). Within 4 hours you can also get to some world-famous places in southern Utah, such as Zion National park, Bryce National Park, Coral Pink Sand Dunes, etc.
