Does A wedgewood stove need to be vented?

I have an old wedgewood stove that is currently connected to propane, but it has what appears to be a vent pipe on the back. Do i need to vent the stove if it is hooked up to propane or was the vent for wood burning? Specific articles or refernces would be great, i am trying to get it approved for use and need documentation.
