Do you like to camp old style?

Mountain man asked:

How many folks out there like to use canvas A frame's or tarps and cook over a small fire with only a stick to cook your meat or fish on.Who love the sound of rain hitting their canvas and the smell of a tent. And make hobo coffee in a can along a river or lake. and not be able to hear no other sound but the wind, the birds, and the crackle of the fire? Perhaps the river as it passes by your camp some where way away from any troop trail deep in the wilderness where not even forest service scouts go......?

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve stared into a campfire under the exact circumstances that you have described. In the old days when you had room to roam, and get away from all signs of civilization, and you could make your own rules, and hunt what you wished and bother no one while doing it.The swamplands never seemed to end, and there were lakes that didn’t have names yet, and you could count one one hand how many people knew how to get to over 3 of them. There were gators, and the black bear were plentiful, with an occasional panther sighting (cougar) if you prefer the western term. You could make your living off the waters and the woods. My Grandfather and his Dad shot ducks and deer for the market, and sold gator hides year round. It was a different time back then. But the paradise was lost, when the governor of our state went and sold all state owned swampland to a farming company to raise soybeans.on. The price? Two dollars and fifty cents an acre. How would you like a deal like that? over 750,000 acres was cleared out.By the greed of a politician. Thanks for bringing back memories of days gone by.

    Can I join you?

I’m a big fan of backpacking. I love being out in the middle of nowhere with a few good friends for a week, and everything you need to survive is on your back. My Dad and I were going to go backpacking in Yellowstone this summer, but he’s gettin’ kinda old and he wimped out on me

is there any other way to “camp”? Oh, you mean compared to the yuppies who transport their home into the woods and call it “roughing it” when they pop their frozen dinner into the micro wave in the $100,000.00 motorhome. Iremember as kid, carying a piece of canvas tarp, a knife, my .22 and a small backpack with a coffee can in it (to cook in, heat water in etc) and some home mae jerky and bisquits just in case the fish were not biting, or the rabbits held to cover that day.

nothing better you describe it well. That’s why I like to check out the civil war period an older demonstrations to get more idea’s for my gear. I would join up with them if it weren’t for the fact them folks hide their modern stuff they can’t seem to live without.
